What does "Free Range Eggs" actually mean?
Free Range eggs are produced in poultry enterprises in which amongst other requirements the hens:
a. have continuous daytime access to open air runs, which
b. must be covered with vegetation, such as pasture;
c. provide 4m² for each hen and
d. have sheds which comply with EC Welfare of Laying Hens requirements.
What does "Barn Eggs" actually mean?
Barn eggs come from poultry enterprises in which amongst other requirements
a. the hens: have sheds which comply with EC Welfare of Laying Hens requirements.
b. are stocked at a density of no more than 9 birds per square metre on the floor, and
c. where the perches provided have minimum of 15cm of perching for every bird.
What are Organic Eggs?

The description Organic can only be applied to eggs if additional production and welfare criteria are met and the producer is registered with and audited by an Organic accreditation body such as The Soil Association
